You may have found that you tend to dream of the same, or at least a
"vaguely familiar" landscape in dreams, over and over again. The more
often you dream of it, the better you seem to know your way around.
Perhaps the terrain gets bigger and brighter, the roads are in better
repair. This is a sign that you are getting to know yourself better,
because the dream landscape is your life and the way you make your way in
the world.
Here are a few basic elements that will help you understand more about
these "landscape" dreams:
Mountains and hills are a very common dream motifs, and they
represent what you might be inclined to think they represent, obstacles
and challenges. Some of them can be quiet lovely anyway, though, can't
they?
Ledges , like balconies in houses, are rest-stops along the
way, where you may pause to admire the view and reflect on what you have
accomplished, but there is a danger of being too tempted to stay and not
proceed onward.
Rivers are all about life and it's journey across your
personal landscape. The river in your dream may be passing you by while
you are standing there helpless, it may be muddy and swift-moving and
dangerous seeming, there may be something on the other side you want to
get to, or you might be floating down it serenely. All of these will show
how you feel about your life right now. But when you walk around a
different bend, the scene might be completely different, and isn't that
the way it always goes?
Bridges represent a way across a sticky problem, but often
you will find in the dream that the bridge is rickety and unreliable.
This means you should think twice, maybe three or four times, before
depending on a certain apparent "way out" or solution to a problem in
your life!
Lakes on the other hand are often the "goal" or destination
in a dream, they represent a high spiritual oasis in the mountains of the
soul, or they may be hidden deep in a mysterious forest or valley. If you
ever reach this lake, taking a sip of the water is like an initiation into
the level of evolution you have just achieved.
Fountains and springs are likewise sources of new energy,
gifts, and insights.
Pools and other still water where you can see your
reflection are opportunities to get a glimpse of your true self - if you
dare to look!
The Sea is a powerful symbol, the primal source of all
life, the mystery of the cycles, life giver and life taker.
Forests represent the dark, mysterious obstacles of the
subconscious that must be negotiated and solved in order to get to the
pool, mountain, fountain, or Cozy Little Cottage (*grin!*) at the heart.
Trees standing alone, for instance in a field, are the Tree
of Life from which all spirit, power, growth, and life originate.
Storms represent emotional outbursts. A tornado can mean a
great upheaval and change, but it usually is one that is long overdue that
you have been putting off our of fear. Now the change has arrived, like
it or not, and things will be better for it in the long run. Lightning in
particular means the power of transformation, which can sometimes be scary
and which we are often afraid is going to kill us or at least destroy life
as we have come to know it.
Cemetaries represent things from your past that are
supposedly buried but which you may need to revisit if you wish to make
any further progress.
Caves are ways in to your subconscious and to powers you
may not even realize you have.
