You may have found that you tend to dream of the same, or at least a
"vaguely familiar" house in dreams, over and over again. The more often
you dream of it, the better you seem to know your way around. Perhaps the
house gets bigger and more full of light. This is a sign that you are
getting to know yourself better, because the House is you, your life, your
soul!
Here are a few basic elements that will help you understand more about
these "house" dreams:
The floors of a house represent the levels of yourSelf. The lower
levels are your more basic attributes (your instincts and material
concerns). The basement is usually your subconscious, especially if it is
dark and full of things that you think are scary, and usually the main
floor is your everyday material concerns in life.
The upper floors are increasing levels of intellect and
spirituality.
Rooms may be beautiful, well-furnished and full of light, or they might
be dark, dusty, and blocked. This should tell you whether this aspect of
yourself is something that is accessible to you, or something you need to
work on getting to know better.
Your dream house will probably have people in
it. They are ALL, every one of them, aspects of yourself! They may be
friendly and easy to get along with, or they may be threatening and - as
in the case of many "party" dreams - rowdy and out of control. They may
block access to a certain room, or they may lead you to a previously
hidden room. Whatever they do, remember that they are parts of you, and
deal with them accordingly.
A balcony in a house is a place in your life where you can take a
breather in your personal growth and take a look around at what you have
accomplished in your life so far. You will probably feel very content and
pleased with life when you have such a dream; this is similar to dreaming
of stopping on ledge on a mountain in an
outdoor dream. You can't stay here forever though, you always have to
pick up and keep going at some point!
A small room at the center of a house is often a "goal" in dreams, and
if you finally find this room you might find your mother waiting there for
you. This is symbolic of our quest for our own psyche, our inner Goddess
(yes, boys, you have one too!) and our own personal re-creative
powers.
Windows are where we can look out of ourselves and consider the world,
other people's feelings and paths, how we are interacting with the world
(good or bad) and maybe see the truth of how someone is treating us.
Other kinds of buildings can appear in dreams, such as churches,
warehouses, castles, and even entire cities. The people and
obstacles/objects you encounter in them have the same meanings, though, as
those you encounter in your House.
Frequently we dream of returning to school, and in these dreams we almost
always forget our locker combinations, show up at the wrong times for
the wrong classes, and find ourselves taking tests we haven't studied
for or were unaware were coming up. These dreams mean you are "going back
to school" in real life, usually about some thing you had already thought
you had a handle on in life!
You might find yourself in a dream
church when you are exploring ideas of giving, community service, and
religion. If churches were a place of personal conflict in your past, you
might find conflicts here in dream as well, or you might find something
worth re-visiting. A truly holy temple or sanctuary, however, is where
you will find your own true Self.
Castles represent ideals which you fear
you will never be able to break through to and achieve; if you are inside
the castle in the dream you might find yourself fighting or fleeing from
pursuit. Eventually you must make the castle your own!
Warehouses or any
large, empty space are enormous potential wombs, which you may feel are
fairly empty at this time in your life.
Entire cities represent your
community or your place in the social structure around you.
