Subduing Dream Monsters

[Return to the main Dreams page] [Return to the Glade] [Return to the Front Porch]

Sometimes we might be required to face and deal with unpleasant characters in our dreams. Please remember, though, that whether they be animals, monsters, people who are friends, family, or strangers, what they are mainly, in dreams, are parts of ourSelves!

In your dream you might kill and even eat the monster that is attacking you. This is a sign that you have conquored the weakness that has been your bane up until now. Sometimes people become upset by dreams of killing a relative or friend or pet, but this does not meant that they secretely wish this person to die, it only means that that person symbolizes some part of themselves that they need to overcome.

We may dream of trapping or caging the beast, or of locking it out of the house. This means that the problem has in fact not been permanently solved, only gotten under control temporarily. Caged beasts always break free eventually, and you will have to revisit this problem, in dream or in "real" life.

Of course the best thing you can do is to make an ally of the aspect of yourself that has seemed to be a weakness. If possible, if you become aware that you are dreaming, offer your dream-ememy some gift. The subconscious is a very simple entity and something basic like food is usually a good gift. Be sure to ask for and insist on some gift in return! When you wake you will find that you have some new strength in your life that you never had before. Sometimes our worst enemies turn out to be our greatest allies.
